OCS Inventory NG includes the packet deployment functionality to be sure that all of the softwares environments which are on the network are the same. From the central management server, you can send the packets which will be downloaded with HTTP/HTTPS and launched by the agent on client’s computer. The OCS deployment is configured to make the packets less impactable on the network. OCS is used as a deployment tool on IT stock of more 150 000 devices.

    OCS Inventory 2.4 has been released

    The OCS Inventory Team is pleased to announce that our server version 2.4 has been released

    You can download it on the following link : OCS Inventory Server 2.4

    This release have 3 major improvements :

    • A brand new REST API have been created and can retrieve all the informations without directly querying the database. Also, it can be really useful to connect with third party softwares. A documentation will be available soon on how to use this new API.
    • Our datatable research system has been greatly improved by adding columns search. Our predictive search can be now used to only search on specific columns. This will help you to make better and more complex search without using our multi-criteria search.
    • Our deployment system have been improved for redistribution infrastructure. From now, you can assign redistribution packages to machines from a dynamic group and static groups. That will help people who use redistribution to improve their deployment workflow.

    The UI has been improved a lot in this version, to simplify your daily use of our product :

    • Complete rework on the old datetime picker
    • Add show / hide column functionality for software search
    • Machine details tabs will now follow the page and prevent user for scroll up for changing tab
    • Improve datatable informations visibility
    • Improve admin data visibility for read only profiles
    • Improve machine inventory workflow by adding a network tab on computers
    • Improve statistics management
    • Number of entries have been updated to show more entries

    Some misc changes have also been done on the interface :

    • Add SSL support for plugin engine
    • Improve CSV export
    • Improve WOL function
    • Improve setup detection method
    • Minor bugs fix

    Finally, some languages has been updated by our contributors :

    • French
    • English
    • Brasillian / Portuguese
    • Japanese

    A lot of these changes has been driven by the community, thanks for helping us.

    • Inventory functionalities

    OCS Inventory NG use an agent which launch an inventory on the clients computers, and a management’s server which retrieve the inventory results. You will be able to see all inventoried data, detected network devices and finally create deployment packets from the webconsole. The communication between the agents and the server are made with the HTTP and HTTPS procotol. Data are formatted with XML and Zlib to reduce the bandwidth usage. The management’s server is composed of :

    OCS Inventory NG includes a packet deployment solutions on remote computers. From the server’s administration interface, you can send the packets which will be downloaded using HTTP/HTTPS and launched by the distants computers’ agent..

    You have to create a packet with the administration’s interface.
    Once the packet is created, you need to activate it.

  • Network discover

    Hardware discovery take place in two steps

    In the first place, the IP search module detects the hardware on the network, even equipped with a firewall. Once an agent has received the order to proceed the IP scan, it identifies the first network interface to use. He try to resolve all other IP address in the subnet using the ARP protocol. All the IP scan data are sent to the server (XML format).

    In a second time, SNMP scan (function added in OCS Inventory NG 2.0) will improve data received by IP discover. Using SNMP scan, you’ll be able to get informations from network devices : scanner, computer without agent, router, etc.

    This feature is only available on Unix unified agent. He will be implemented on Windows Agent of OCS Inventory 2.2.

    You can now connect ocsinventory-ng with a 3rd party software !

    Since version 1.0, a SOAP web service is available. This one is available from the OCS Inventory NG communication server.
