Very good job
I've deployed OCS server 1.0RC3-1 on a small compaq desktop (PII 500) with Ubuntu 6.06 LTS.
All windows computer/server have agent 1.0RC3-1.
Thanks to http://www.newbielinux.fr for there great howto (fr/en) for installation.
Until now, it works great. OCS Server can cope without any problem, web interface is easy to use.
Well, great job man !!!
OCS is not configged to support mutil-byte characters, is it? The OCS agent is installed on my Windows XP, with default language of Simplified Chinese. I send the command "OCSInventory /local /xml" and then check the xml file. All of Chinese characters are written well. But when the inventory information is sent to a mysql databse, I got garbage characters; and IE browser also shows garbage characters. My mysql and OCS server are on a Redhat Linux.
Ive deployed OCS only in test environment and I already found several points that prevent me so far from deploying it to production.
Functional part of php code is not separeted from HTML.
There are no proper comments in php files. That makes it dificult to modify web based console to our needs.
I would welcome all database fields to be choose able from select list as an column in central console.
Logout doesnt work properly. If I press OCS Inventory ng image after Ive been loged out then it logs me in without user name and password.
I think it might be problem of session handling.
version Im using is 4020.
Have started with 5 to 10 computers, nows more than 50 and i plan to deploy it to one hundred soon. Server with Debian 3.1, clients under Linux and Windows. No problem at this time. Good job. Congratulations to the team.
I use OCS everyday, it's very usefull fast and simple. Thank you very much for everything!
Have installed, 1.0RC3-1 (Ver. 4020) and tested without error - Using an OpenBSD 3.9 box, with OpenBSD's default xAMP stack :-)
It automagically upgraded the mysql schema when migrating the db from a previous RC1 install using Ubuntu 6.06.1
Very impressive, congratulations, and keep up the good work!

Thank you
Extremely useful tool, thanks for your effort! Hopefully it will save us a lot of headache!
It's greatest power is in the data that is collected, which can then be used independently.
But, there is still a place for some improvements, like, for example, in the administration console, when searching for computers by certain criteria, it is often more useful to get just a count of computers satisfying given criteria then a full list. Also, the agent service could have separated timing settings for scanning and reporting functions, which would enable to have longer periods for regular reporting (thus being more "server/bandwidth friendly"), and shorter periods for scanning a computer, forcing a report if a change in configuration is detected.
We've been running OCS for just over a week now. It's a wonderful product! Thanks for sharing!!!
Great piece of software, just one sugestion: how about include the license key in the software inventory.
