OCS Inventory NG

Hello, we are using OCS Inventory at office and found some detection problems.
The fact is some hardware is nor recognized properly. Specially with models HP DC 5800 SFF desktop and HP 6910b notebooks.
Both models use Pentium Core 2 Duo processors. But OCS Inventory detects them as Pentium III Xeon based computers.
Do I need to update the program or maybe check additional parameters withing the affected hardware?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,  I have been using and evaluating this product and came across a feature that required some attention on my part to add a function to the main menu. 

Our IT admin required that all windows computers add themselves to the data base every time someone logs into the domain.  As this admittedly grows the data base rather quickly, it also creates duplicate entries.  As I have noticed that there are ways to deal with duplicated entries, and there is an approved feature request pending, I have added some functionality that essentially queries the database twice and reveals only the unique entries. This is one button push that only grabs the latest of each unique entry.

The code may seem as somewhat of a hack - it does what I need it to do, and seems like all of the
functionality of the application does remain intact.

Essentially the fuctionality is a new button object that quieries the database and filters out all the duplicate names, Then creates a second query that has a population clause WHERE IN {....} of only the unique names. 

My IT administrator would like me to submit this code to you.  I would be happy too - if you want it. Just send me an email as to how you would like to go about that.

I realize this product is in its infancy, and I see lots of potential for it, but I am de-installing it because of security concerns. The underlying protocol HTTP is open on most network firewalls, and using it to transport network, machine, and user information, means it could easily be intercepted or redirected to destinations outside the LAN. I don't know for sure that all my client info is not being sent to you or someone else as well.
It looks like some thought went into securing the ability to publish apps since that requires SSL, but it appears to me that the Web server has to be listening on an unsecure port (HTTP 80 by default) and not only does that mean computer info that is transfered is unsecured, but also the server is also available to be hacked at from anywhere if you make it available to remote users and sites.
Extending the SSL security to all comunications would go miles to making this an enterprise grade product.
Like many open source products the documentation is just enough to get the most technically profficient started, and then you have to burn many hours trying to figure out what is not documented, or how to use what is documented poorly.
Realizing this is french to english and some of the terms are open for enterpratation. The poor documentation leads to many questions from user, and it appears most of those go unanswered, or are answered poorly.
Though I must say I hate the interface, I must also say that that I like the underlying archatecture, and where the capabilites are going.  I think if the product security, and documention issues were addressed I would definately purchase/donate to use it.
Unfortunately at this time, I have to pass.

about 1 year ago ocs implanting in the network at my company. It is very useful, I have all the information needed to manage my department and I can do queries.
The installation plays is not easy, but I recommend this software.

Testing software now.  I love it, it is great, but Is there a way to add 2 things:
1) Serial Number
2) Ability to add custom fields, we do need to know who the administrators in charge is, HW Support Company and Phone number, contract number, to mention some.
3) Can I add these fields in the database?  If so what would happen?

OCS-NG needs A LOT of work. Childish interface, tough to use, poorly arranged. Documentation doesn't match the actual program. Documentation/Wiki is poorly worded. Several program errors and inconsistencies. DO NOT USE THIS PROGRAM!

Very nice softwares. It's really easy to use and to install.
I run it on a VM without any problem. It gives a lot of information about PC's

Someday I instal ocs inventory agent y my PC but now it doesn't anything it doesn´t work and I can´t desinstal it. I tried using panel control, unlocker and ccleaner but it always appear again and again. Plis help me urgent with this problem. My Pc isn`t a server.

How do I know who installed the software?

its an outclass software when we use it with GLPI.....But a big problem.....One most important part of computer inventory is missing which is MotherBoard....Just bcuz of MotherBoard my management rejected it

Very happy with OCS Inventory. 

The softwware is running on a VM, and started finding computers as soon as the client software was installed.

I am using this software to inventory Linux laptops and servers, Windows laptops and PC's.
